The best hotels near Keukenhof book out months in advance. Lisse is a small town with limited options, so if you want to stay within walking distance of the gardens, you need to plan ahead.
I stayed in Lisse for my visit, and it was worth it for the early morning access to the tulip fields. But Amsterdam and Leiden are solid alternatives if Lisse is booked out or you want more going on in the evenings.

- Lisse: This is the town where Keukenhof is located.

Not Sure Where to Stay?
Lisse: If you choose to stay in Lisse, you can walk 20 minutes to the entrance of Keukenhof, or ride a bike if you have one (some hotels offer bike rentals). To be honest, there isn’t much going on in Lisse from a tourism perspective. But given you’ll only be there a day or two, it’s the most convenient area to stay. This is where I stayed on my visit.
Amsterdam: The alternative is to stay in Amsterdam and visit Keukenhof on a day trip. This is the most popular option, offering a wide range of hotels to choose from. There are plenty of public transport options to get you to Keukenhof from Amsterdam Central Station, and the journey generally takes about an hour.

Leiden: Another popular place to stay is Leiden. Leiden is a 20-minute drive from Keukenhof, but there’s excellent public transport access, which is the most convenient way to get there. However, there’s plenty of parking near Keukenhof if you do decide to drive yourself.

Art’otel
City: Amsterdam
Driving: 37-minutes
Public Transport: 1 hour 30 minutes
Address: Prins Hendrikkade 33, Amsterdam City Centre

I like the Art’hotel as it’s located directly across from Centraal Station, which makes getting around easy. I’ve stayed at this hotel in Amsterdam and at a couple of their hotels in Germany. The one in Amsterdam is by far the best, with its outstanding design, historic views, pool and in-house art gallery. This is a very cool hotel, but if price is a consideration, Sir Albert is a better value.

Book in Advance
I suggest booking your accommodation well in advance if you want to stay at one of the highly rated hotels in this guide. Hotels in Keukenhof book up quickly, often six months or more in advance. This is especially the case for hotels in Lisse. However, places to stay in Amsterdam are much easier to come by and are the best option for last-minute bookings.

Responsible Travel
- Staying in a sustainable hotel is an important consideration, and it’s especially impactful to choose one that uses renewable energy as its primary source.
- Then, you can look for sustainability measures such as avoiding single-use plastic, providing access to green space, supporting the hotel’s contributions to community projects, and ensuring fair treatment of workers.
- When considering social impact, staying in small towns and cities greatly benefits local communities.
- Rather than taking a day trip, overnight stays benefit not only local hotels but also shops, bars, restaurants and any services you might use there.
Book early if you want Lisse. If you’ve left it late, Amsterdam always has availability, and the shuttle makes it easy enough. Either way, you’ll see the tulips.
