Author Bio: Andrea Anastasakis
I’m Andrea Anastasakis, the traveller and writer behind Rearview Mirror, a travel blog dedicated to all things travel in Europe.
I’m from Perth, Australia, but I’ve been living on and off in Europe since 1999. Right now, I’m taking a break from blogging while I’m back at uni studying sustainability.
I’ll be forever thankful to my grandparents for taking me away every school holiday. Road trips and camping trips were the norm for as long as I can remember.
Those years of exploring my home state opened my eyes to the world beyond my backyard. But I always wanted to go further.
As soon as I was able, I started travelling on my own, then with friends and always with my family.
My overseas travel started with Singapore and Malaysia. From there, I visited elsewhere in Asia. Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand and Japan.
Next up was the United States with friends and then Canada alone. The west coast is my favourite area in North America, particularly the Pacific Northwest.
New York, Boston and Toronto are always fun, but I also visited elsewhere. Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Denver and Las Vegas, to name a few. I even made it to Wyoming one time.
But more than anything, I love Europe. It was my home for 20 years and I explored the entire continent.
It was in Europe where I became a full-time travel blogger. I made it my life and career. At least for a while.
I’ve now returned home to Australia to study for a Master of Environment at the University of Melbourne.
As I’m now focused on sustainability and climate change action, I’m not sure how I feel about promoting travel.
Travel benefits local communities in many ways but is incredibly damaging in others. Sustainable tourism is a complex issue and probably not achievable without transformative change.
So for the moment, I’m using blogging as a way to reminisce about past travels. Remembering great experiences and friendships come and gone.
Many years of experience help me when writing the travel guides you’ll find here. I hope you can see the care I’ve taken in creating guides and providing tips on how to travel more responsibly.
