Places to Stay
In short, there are three main places to stay for Keukenhof:
- Lisse: This is the town where Keukenhof is located.
- Amsterdam: The most convenient option for most people.
- Leiden: A small city near Keukenhof.
Not Sure Where to Stay?
Lisse: If you choose to stay in Lisse, you could walk 20 minutes to the entrance to Keukenhof or ride a bike if you have access to one (some hotels have bike rentals).
To be honest, there isn’t much going on in Lisse from a tourism perspective. But given you’ll only be there a day or two, it’s the most convenient area to stay. This is where I stayed on my visit.
Amsterdam: The alternative is to stay in Amsterdam and visit Keukenhof on a day trip. This is the most popular option, which gives you a huge range of hotels to choose from.
There are plenty of public transport options to get you to Keukenhof from Amsterdam Central Station, and it generally takes an hour or so.
Leiden: Another popular place to stay is in the city of Leiden. Leiden is a 20-minute drive from Keukenhof, but there’s excellent access to public transport, which is the most convenient way to get there. However, there’s plenty of parking near Keukenhof if you do decide to drive yourself.

Amsterdam Hotels
Sir Albert Hotel
City: Amsterdam
Driving: 30-minutes
Public Transport: 1 hour 30 minutes
Address: Albert Cuypstraat 2-6, Amsterdam

Sir Albert is one of Amsterdam’s best budget boutique hotels. It is highly rated for its service standards and sustainability initiatives.
It’s well-located for sightseeing and entertainment in Amsterdam.
You can easily get to the Tulip Festival from the hotel by car, public transport or by taking the shuttle bus with a combi ticket.
However, you might prefer to stay near the main train station as this is where you’ll have to go to get public transport to Keukenhof. In that case, I suggest staying at the following hotel.
art’otel
City: Amsterdam
Driving: 37-minutes
Public Transport: 1 hour 30 minutes
Address: Prins Hendrikkade 33, Amsterdam City Centre
Check Availability
I like the Art’hotel as it’s located directly across from Centraal Station, which makes getting around easy.
I’ve stayed at this hotel in Amsterdam and a couple of their hotels in Germany.
The one in Amsterdam is by far the best, with its outstanding design, historic views, pool and in-house art gallery.
This is a very cool hotel, but if the price is a consideration, Sir Albert is better value for money.
Leiden Hotels
Hotel Steenhof
City: Leiden
Driving: 23-minutes
Public Transport: 1 hour 10 minutes
Address: Steenschuur 11, Leiden
Check Availability
Hotel Steenhof is just over 12 kilometres from Keukenhof, and I’d recommend staying here if you are travelling by car and can’t find accommodation in Lisse.
The hotel is in a stylish, historic building with modern decor and excellent facilities, including a gym, and overall, this is a good value for the money.
Pakasa
City: Leiden

The Pakasa in Leiden is a luxury apartment overlooking the Oude Rijn in the heart of the city’s historic centre.
Its location is ideal, allowing for easy exploration of Leiden and providing convenient access to the train station for trips to Amsterdam and Lisse.
The apartment impresses with its beautiful furnishings, high-quality amenities, and extremely comfortable beds.
Key features include a superb shower, washing machine, and dishwasher, adding comfort to your stay. Keukenhof is just a 20-minute drive away.
Plan Your Trip
Book in Advance
I suggest booking your accommodation well in advance if you want to stay in one of the highly-rated hotels in this guide.
Hotels in Keukenhof book up quickly, often six months or more in advance. This is especially the case for hotels in Lisse.
However, places to stay in Amsterdam are much easier to come by and are the best option for last-minute bookings.

Responsible Travel
When planning where to stay, it’s worth considering your travel choices’ social and environmental impact. Here are some starting points:
- Staying in a sustainable hotel is an important consideration, and it’s especially impactful to stay in a hotel that uses renewable energy as its primary energy source.
- Then, you can look for sustainability measures like the avoidance of single-use plastic, access to green space, contributions by the hotel to community projects and the fair treatment of workers.
- It’s also recommended to use active and public transport options to reduce noise, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Active transport means walking and cycling, both of which are excellent options in the Netherlands. This is the most eco-friendly, healthy and safe way to travel.
- When considering social impact, staying in small towns and cities greatly benefits local communities.
- Rather than taking a day trip, overnight stays benefit not only local hotels but also shops, bars, restaurants and any services you might use there.
