I feel I’ve failed in my travel blogger duties this year. I’ve slowed down my travels and slowed down my blog posting. In my defence I was completely burnt out after three years of non-stop travel but I’m now in recovery mode. I have seriously itchy feet which is why I’m happy to announce my upcoming travel plans.
I’m going on a three week mystery tour of Central Europe and the Balkans!
Forget about slow travel and living like a local. I want to see as many places as possible in 21 days and as many new (to me) places as possible. Next year I can go back to slow travel, revisiting the places I love, but I think this trip will be a lot of fun, if not tiring!
Travelling by Train
If you don’t know already, I sold my car this summer. Not good for a road trip blogger. I adored that car but I had to sell it as it was too much of a commitment/responsibility. (People ask me why I don’t have kids but I can’t even manage to take care of a car!).
This means I won’t be road tripping around Europe, I’ll be travelling by train. Eurail have given me a 21 day consecutive rail pass to use as I please. I think I’ve come up with a great way to use it.
The Plan
I’m going to fulfil a lifelong travel dream with this pass. What I’ve always wanted to do is travel without any plan whatsoever. The plan is to have no plan. I’m going to rock up to the station and take the first train to whichever destination takes my fancy. There will be no prior research, nothing booked in advance, no idea where I’ll be from one day to the next.
I can’t wait to get travelling.
Daily Vlogs
Publishing daily vlogs came to a grinding halt while I was in Budapest. I have a few from the summer which I’ll be uploading later but right now I’m ready to start filming the next trip. I’ll be daily vlogging the mystery tour, filming each journey and destination. Subscribe here to follow along.
Daily Blog Posts
I’m going to take a risk here and also commit to daily blog posts. This is tough for me as I’m not always the most reliable person (see previous point about kids) but I want to document the trip for those who don’t use Youtube.
It goes without saying I’ll be on Instagram too.
Crazy?
This might be the most intense trip I’ve ever taken but I want to do something completely different before I retreat to Australia for the summer. What do you think? Will I burn out again?

Spontaneous travel! Something we all say we’ll do, but then we get busy planning and the spontaneity goes right out the window . . . . We recently did a trip with a Eurail pass, and we loved the flexibility. But I’ll admit we planned most of it out (and we did 15 days of travel over 2 months–not the 21-day travel bonanza you’re undertaking!). I admire your willingness to “roll the travel dice” . . . and I’ll be reading along to see where it leads. Bon Voyage!!!
If I’d had the same pass as you I totally would have planned everything but with this pass there are no restrictions so I’m gonna take advantage as see as much as possible! Hopefully it all works out in the end. 🙂
