Taverna Lazaro: Traditional Albanian Food

Taverna Lazaro Berat

Traditional Albanian cuisine near Berat castle.

Taverna Lazaro is a family run business serving traditional Albanian and Mediterranean dishes including tave kosi (slow cooked lamb in yoghurt), qofte (meatballs), salce kosi (yoghurt sauce with garlic) and fergese (baked peppers with local cheese). Steps from the entrance to Berat Castle, it’s situated in a peaceful location surrounded by olive groves and grazing goats. The milk from those goats is used to make their very own homemade yoghurt which is incredibly tasty! I’ve spent a lot of time in Berat and since discovering Taverna Lazaro I refuse to eat out anywhere else. In summer, choose a table on the terrace to watch the sunset over the valley.
